All too many of the other great tragedies of history - Stalin's atrocities, the killing fields of Cambodia, the Holocaust, to name but a few - were perpetrated by armed troops against unarmed populations. Many could well have been avoided mitigated, had the perpetrators known their intended victims were equipped with a rifle and twenty bullets apiece... If a few hundred Jewish fighter in the Warsaw Ghetto could hold off the Wehrmacht for almost a month with only a handful weapons, six million Jews armed with rifles could not so easily have been herded into cattle cars.

Honoring Israeli Soldiers on Yom HaZikaron, April 29, 2025

On this solemn Yom HaZikaron, Jews across the globe come together to honor the fallen Israeli soldiers who gave their lives defending our cherished homeland, Israel. We also salute the brave soldiers who serve every day, protecting our nation with steadfast courage and devotion. We grieve for the victims of terror, whose lives were tragically cut short, and cherish their memory.

The resilience and strength of our people inspire us deeply. The sacrifices of the fallen and the dedication of our soldiers call us to uphold our duty to protect our communities. As the siren echoes, uniting us in silent reflection, we, as Jews worldwide, commit to preserving their legacy through solidarity and action.

To the families of the fallen and all who serve, we stand with you in pride and sorrow. May the memory of our heroes and the courage of our soldiers fuel our determination to build a secure and thriving Israel.
