“If you don’t know much about it, the hand-wringing alarmism and fear mongering get a lot of traction. Why, if I were a cynical fellow, I might just start to wonder after a while if gun control enthusiasts weren’t preying on the ignorant in order to push an agenda.”
Same as anyone else defends their arguments. By getting monolithic.
Take water for example. It’s highly corrosive, causes untold billions of dollars in damage (floods, hurricanes, etc. ), and people drown in it daily (in the US it’s just under 4k unintentional drownings per year, or about 10/day average). You could make a case that water is the most destructive element on earth and ought to be banned completely, if it wasn’t for the fact that humans can’t go for more than three days without ingesting it, and everybody knows it.
It’s that last bit that is the catch when talking about gun control. If you don’t know much about it, the hand-wringing alarmism and fear mongering get a lot of traction. Why, if I were a cynical fellow, I might just start to wonder after a while if gun control enthusiasts weren’t preying on the ignorant in order to push an agenda.
Good thing I’m not a cynic.
