Would you know what to do in an active shooter situation?
Read an excerpt from the book:
Realities of Defense
The worst case scenario for defense is one in which all the variables and factors of the encounter are in favor of the assailant or assailants and not you. This means that you are at an immediate disadvantage and need to turn the situation around as soon as possible to your advantage. Failure to get into a position of advantage as fast as possible can lead to serious injury or death.
Examples include:
- You cannot immediately avoid the attack or escape from the area. The cause may be that you lacked situational awareness although this may not always be the case.
- The attacker(s) are close enough to you to cause serious bodily injury or death. This also means that you will have very little, if any, reaction time. Remember, action is faster that reaction. Always attempt to maintain distance when faced with aggression. But, sometimes you need to close the gap making the predator less effective with their actions. This typically requires that you have a higher level of skill.
- Attacker(s) immediate attack you in a very aggressive manner in a second or less. You did not have time to mentally, physically, or emotionally prepare for a fight.
- The attacker(s) have weapons such as an edged weapon, firearm, stick, etc.
