How does an original colony, one of the thirteen founding states represented by both a stripe and a star on our flag, one that ratified the Constitution, ratified the Bill of Rights, and signed the Declaration of Independence, become so diminished and disconnected from its own history that it would abandon Virginia’s right, an absolute right, to keep and bear arms? Shall not be infringed was not a suggestion. Blood was spilled to secure that freedom, the freedom to keep and bear arms. To forget that sacrifice and to discard it so casually is deeply shameful. It reflects a failure to honor those who gave their lives so future generations could live free from government oppression.
Anti-gun legislators in Richmond have been busy ahead of the 2026 legislative session working on ways to burden your Second Amendment rights.
Numerous gun control bills have been filed, and we anticipate when session starts next week, they could quickly be scheduled for committee hearings. Recently filed bills include bans on commonly owned semi-auto rifles and punitive taxes on suppressors. It’s critical that NRA members and Second Amendment supporters stay vigilant and get involved today!
Below is a summary of some of the pre-filed gun control bills in the General Assembly:
- House Bill 271 bans certain semi-automatic firearms, including many semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns, and arbitrarily limits magazine capacities. This bill is an attempt to redefine and ban firearms that are in common use by law-abiding citizens—plain and simple gun confiscation by definition.
