Speaking of misleading, here we have Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison: “We need to re-conceive of how we do policing, you know, in England the cops don’t carry guns — in other countries as well. Minnesota Democratic Attorney General Keith Ellison is calling for a “refund the community” approach in place of “defund the police” and questioning why every police officer carries a firearm.
In talking about the “defund the police” movement that has come following the death of George Floyd, Ellison said he doesn’t care if a city gets rid of the word “police” but there needs to be some sort of public safety system in place.
Black Lives Matter, which has been organizing protests in cities around the nation since the death of George Floyd on May 25 in the custody of Minneapolis police, has demanded that cities defund their local police departments.
