The Second Amendment and Our Prayers for the Iranian People
By Doris Wise, Founder of Jews Can Shoot
As Americans, we hold dear the freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, particularly the Second Amendment: the right to keep and bear arms. Our Founding Fathers, having thrown off the chains of tyranny, knew that liberty demands the means to defend it. They embedded this right in our Bill of Rights to ensure that no government could strip us of our ability to resist oppression.
Today, as we witness the suffering of the brave Iranian people under the brutal regime of the mullahs, our hearts are heavy. We are moved not only by their courage, but by their vulnerability—and we lift them up in heartfelt, unwavering prayer. We pray for their strength, for their safety, and above all, for their freedom.
The Iranian people, heirs to the rich and ancient Persian legacy, have endured unimaginable hardship under a repressive theocratic dictatorship. From the 2009 Green Movement to the 2022 uprising following the murder of Mahsa Amini, their cries for liberty have echoed around the world. And yet, their struggle is made all the more heartbreaking by one crucial fact: they are unarmed. Disarmed and defenseless, they face the full force of the regime’s military and paramilitary might, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
This stark contrast reveals the profound truth behind our Second Amendment. A free people must never be stripped of the means to resist tyranny. The Iranian people’s suffering reminds us why this right is not just American—it is human. Our prayers are not just symbolic; they are a cry from our souls for their deliverance and a declaration that their pain is not forgotten.
At Jews Can Shoot, we have always stood for the right of self-defense. Our history teaches us what happens when people are disarmed in the face of evil. The Jewish people know too well the consequences of being rendered defenseless. That is why we see ourselves in the eyes of the Iranian people. Their plight is not foreign to us—it is personal, and it is deeply human.
We offer not only our solidarity but our deepest prayers for the Iranian people. We pray that they will rise one day—not merely in protest, but in victory. We pray that they will reclaim their dignity, their voice, and their God-given right to defend themselves. We pray for a day when no regime can silence them, no prison can hold them, and no weapon can be used against them without the ability to fight back.
While nations like the United States and Israel may play roles in weakening Iran’s regime, the true revolution must come from within. The Iranian people’s spirit is already unbreakable—what they lack are the tools to make that spirit victorious. Let this be a lesson to all of us: our right to bear arms is not just a constitutional matter—it is a moral and spiritual one. It is what separates liberty from tyranny, survival from slaughter.
To the Iranian people, we say this: You are not alone. Our prayers are with you. Our hearts are with you. We see you, we hear you, and we stand with you. May God grant you the strength to endure, the courage to rise, and the freedom you so deeply deserve.
