“Remember when the FBI admitted they failed to act on 2 warnings about the Parkland murderer?”
The FBI did not fail to act. Because there is no better way to emotionally enact further restrictions on lawful American gun owners than a mass shooting where children are murdered. How much of a pattern do we need to see this?
Red flag confiscation laws, sometimes known by their more genteel moniker, extreme risk protection orders, are due process-free ways for a gun owners’ firearms to be confiscated until he or she hires and attorney and proves that the target isn’t a threat to themself of others. Before the passage of ERPO laws, there were already laws on the books in every state that authorities can use to disarm someone who poses an actual threat, but the Gun Control Industry has succeeded in lowering the bar for grabbing guns with the passage of red flag laws in a number of states.
Red flag laws are ripe for abuse (not to mention they’re also dangerous) given the targets frequently get no notice a confiscation order has been issued until police arrive). In some states, depending on how broadly their laws are written, virtually anyone can initiate a red flag confiscation proceeding; friends, ex spouses, co-workers, and more.
How great is that?
