A gun rights group and three individuals have sued the Allegheny County sheriff, the county and the state police commissioner over the shutdown of the county’s firearms division and the state’s ban on transporting loaded guns on public roads or spaces during the COVID-19 crisis.
The Firearms Policy Coalition, based in California, and Allegheny County citizens Emily Cowey, Chelsea Schmidt and Alan Booth sued in federal court in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
The suit names Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen and Col. Robert Evanchick, commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, as defendants along with Allegheny County.
