“Now this is a lesson, I would argue, for this country to recognize the importance of not disarming the average citizen. We have to recognize that when socialists get into power, they often turn to tyrants,” he warns. “And in this case, the tyrant has all the weapons, and he has strong allies that are willing to back him up.”
A national defense analyst says Americans need to be paying attention to and learning from what’s going on in Venezuela.
History provides a number of examples of how totalitarian regimes have confiscated the people’s guns, leaving them defenseless against tyranny. It happened in Nazi Germany in the 1930s, and more recently in Venezuela where the government claimed that disarming the populace would make it safer.
“Back in 2012, the government under Hugo Chavez just confiscated all the weapons in the hands of civilians,” reports Bob Maginnis, a senior fellow for national security at the Family Research Council and author of Alliance of Evil. “So the only people with weapons in that country ostensibly are the military and the police forces that are by and large loyal to Maduro.”
