The last few years have seen a heightened level of antisemitic violence directed at Jews and at Jewish places of worship. In light of these events, Doris Wise has organized a presentation by Scott Kirshner on Surviving Violent Encounters. Scott Kirshner, M.Ed., has held many positions within the criminal justice system and has extensive experience in officer safety and survival. He has been a Parole Administrator, Supervisory Probation Officer, Probation Officers, and Correctional Officer.
Throughout his career, he was an officer survival instructor and was integral in the development and implementation of officer safety curriculum for two large agencies. He served as a Certified Firearms Instructor, Lead Defensive Tactics instructor and Officer Survival Instructor. He taught classes on: Use of Force, Tactical Mindset, Applied Defensive Tactics, Low-light Shooting, Force-on-Force, Judgmental Shooting, Verbal De-escalation, OC Spray, Expandable Baton, Safety Policies, and other courses. He has consulted and provided training for probation and court departments on staff safety. Mr. Kirshner has worked with numerous municipal, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies relating to probation and parole. He has trained with the FBI SWAT Team – Phoenix Division, Phoenix Police Department, SureFire Institute, Pro-Active Training Institute, Pima County Sheriff’s Department, and many other government and private agencies on topics to include: officer survival, active shooter intervention, force-on-force training, shoot house instructor, advanced handgun operator, terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, building searches and room entry, school violence, workplace violence, flashbang operator, tactical scouting, and others. He has also received specialized training on the topics of: Sex Offenders, Domestic Violence Offenders, Mental Health Offenders, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Motivational Interviewing, Risk and Needs Assessments, Public Information Officer training, Faculty Skills Development, Advanced Faculty Skills Development, Curriculum & Lesson Plan Development, and numerous leadership schools.
Mr. Kirshner has received Supervisor of the Year, Exceptional Service Award, Director’s Team Award, Trainer Excellence Award, Excellence in Education Award, Letters of Commendation, and was nominated for Officer of the Year on two occasions. He has a Master of Education Degree in Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Business.
