Washington DC is getting set to join other parts of the United States in enacting legislation to take guns from people against their will.
The laws, called red flag laws, purport to be taking guns from “dangerous” individuals.
The laws are designed to allow a family member or police officer to petition a court to remove firearms from a person deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.
But many are concerned that the laws make it too simple for a vengeful person to file a petition and have someone’s guns removed.
It should be no surprise that a liberal area like DC would be among the states, 12, which have enacted or proposed this type of legislation, WTOP reported.
The D.C. Council Judiciary and Public Safety Committee has voted unanimously to join Maryland and a dozen other states with “red flag” laws — laws intended to temporarily remove guns from the hands of individuals who may be in crisis.
