All too many of the other great tragedies of history - Stalin's atrocities, the killing fields of Cambodia, the Holocaust, to name but a few - were perpetrated by armed troops against unarmed populations. Many could well have been avoided mitigated, had the perpetrators known their intended victims were equipped with a rifle and twenty bullets apiece... Don Felson (z’’l) was just 16 years old when the Germans invaded Glubokie, Poland. Don narrowly escaped the June 1942 town massacre of 2,500 Jews, and he and his older brother Stan joined the Panamarenko partisan brigade.

After learning that their mother and younger brother were murdered by the SS, the two brothers intensified their armed campaign, dynamiting railroads and ambushing German convoys. They saved many lives by disrupting the Nazi war machine and evacuating the wounded from behind enemy lines.
