To my gunrights friends, NRA members, etc…. you’ve now heard a few companies are trying to get free PR by disrespecting NRA *AND* its 5 million members [and another 10-15++ million vote-along sympathizers] – even though they loved the having the business up till now.
I’d bet the national NRA website will have updated listings now or very shortly.
[No, these companies don’t really care about these issues – they need some PR free advertising in a competitive environment…. ]
So, it’s time to cut ties with these businesses…
[I specifically note that for credit cards & insurance, etc. to ensure you have other credit facilities or insurance carriers arranged before “pulling the plug.” That might take some time – don’t act rashlly and penalize yourself – “all in due time”. ]
Also note that your credit score/FICO may decrease a bit depending both on the fraction of your unsecured credit line you cancel & if you happen to have some some carried debt that’ll increase your debt-to-limit ratio – which in turn also affecting your FICO score…
… so if you’re gonna buy a house or re-fi a house, etc. DO THAT FIRST before killing the card.]
[P*ss off *any* credit card company! Pay off debt!]
1.) First National Bank of Omaha [via its First BankCard division] was the actual issuer of NRA-branded VISA cards.
…and they are not renewing NRA contract, but that does not mean you need to continue supporting them [thru the rest of the year or whatever term is left to card expiry] with transaction fees – those sunsabitches are getting a percent on each of your transactions.
[Alternatively, perhaps one might just do lotsa nickel & dime transactions on these cards to burden FNB Omaha with transaction costs that, on “micro transactions”, give them more costs than any profit – and keep the card open and unused to require maintenance costs… make sure they send you statements not in email but First Class USPS ;-)]
FNB Omaha/First BankCard seem to also carry other affinity card lines – so you may have more than the NRA card wit them – check any cards w/your professional group or union.
2.) Wyndham hotels has its Barclaycard VISA too….
So when you can, cut that Wyndham card up – and avoid Wyndham hotels (includes Ramada Inn) when you travel.
Check & avoid any motel/hotel you stay at is under Wyndham umbrella – I think even Super8 is. Sometimes outfits like Hotels.com won’t tell you.
[By contrast it appears hotels under the Marriott umbrella DO continue to respect The Members.]
3.) Avoid BestWesterns. Save money, buy a steak, send in a donation, and stay at Motel6 instead.
4.) Avoid Enterprise, Alamo & National rental cars.
Avoid Hertz too – they just tweeted they don’t like your biz.
Budget/Avis now confirmed to be a problem too.
Dunno what you do here…
5.) Avoid MetLIfe insurance (car, home, auto, life, etc.)
I understand some insurance can be hard to change (esp life & disability lines) and nobody – esp with families and complex work ties with benefits channel – can always be perfectly ‘pure’ in these matters, but give it as much a try as possible.
I know I’m glad to pay more to businesses that like me, or at least stay neutral and out of the fray, instead of my giving support to biz who proved to hate me, my friends, many family members and my associations.
That’s a start for now.
If anyone can prove the above are incorrect I’m glad to update the above list. If anyone has “new entries” for above, please let me know.
