Many could well have been avoided mitigated, had the perpetrators known their intended victims were equipped with a rifle and twenty bullets apiece... If a few hundred Jewish fighter in the Warsaw Ghetto could hold off the Wehrmacht for almost a month with only a handful weapons, six million Jews armed with rifles could not so easily have been herded into cattle cars.

My dad taught me to shoot when I was 6. First lesson: never point a gun at someone unless you intend to kill them. He was a WWII vet. Hmm. Not so many of my generation have committed these atrocities. Perhaps we need to rethink the relationship our kids have with guns. They are not video games. Beyond that, self defense is a duty, not an option. We don’t want to live in a state where the police are omnipresent controlling the activities and thoughts of previously free people. I’ve seen that, too, during the Soviet era. The notion that schools should be “gun-free” zones is just nutty— and dangerous. I like the Israeli school model: locked doors, armed (but anonymous) teachers; zero attacks.
