The intent of the law is clearly not about effecting any substantive change other than to make it as difficult as possible to remain in the firearms business and for enthusiasts to practice their passion. That’s the ultimate goal, add friction until people begin to make the choice to not exercise their rights or run out of places to purchase.
There’s a lot of confusion regarding ammunition sales in this New Year. A lot of people mistakenly think that nobody can sell ammunition as of today. The truth is that most ammunition sales will continue without any change in 2018. Like most dealers in CA, we already have our ammunition vendors license and we’ll still be selling ammo tomorrow in exactly the same manner as 2017. The only significant change anyone will notice is that we won’t be able to display ammunition where the public can touch it.
The balance of the new law will not take effect until July of 2019, when the DOJ is supposed to have a point of purchase instant check system in place. The implementation of this is possibly in doubt, as a lot of infrastructure has to be created and a lot of procedural issues have to be addressed before then in order for full implementation to occur. We wouldn’t be surprised if the date gets pushed back due to the massive amount of work that needs to get done in order to implement, regardless of serious constitutional issues, what’s essentially a very confusing and poorly constructed law.
Please stay current and involved in the political process and with the various 2nd amendment advocacy groups. Everyone needs to participate or we will continue to have our rights eroded until it’s too late.
