I see that some of our good ol’ boys and gals are all for throwing the dogs a bone by regulatory action banning so-called “bump stocks”.
Besides being wrong on principle, I’d like them all to consider this: the bump stock is an ingenious innovation called into being by the strict federal regulations on conventional automatic firearms. The bump stock was invented to deliver auto-like rates of fire cheaply, simply, and in circumvention of those regulations. To these friends of ours i say:
I promise and assure you that human ingenuity did not expire with the invention of the bump stock. If y’all manage to regulate those away, you will have summoned forth another invention that gets around your ban even more cheaply, effectively, and deadly.
And you’ll call this an “unintended consequence”.
