Comment and links from a very knowledgeable and great friend of Jews Can Shoot:
At most opportunities I attempt to “remind” those who will listen that the when the Nazi’s came to power in January of 1933, the previous Weimar Republic (“republic” in name only as it was a coalition of primarily “Socialist” parties) had enacted Law on Firearms and Ammunition (1928;) handgun registration. So, when the Nazi’s goose-stepped into power they picked up a “list” of all handgun owners in Germany. It didn’t take long for the Nazi’s to round up all the handguns owned by Jews and Political rivals. This 1928 law replaced the complete ban (but not completely enforced) of all firearms put into effect by the Socialists then in power; the 1919 Regulations on Weapons Ownership. The 1919 ban was “justified” as a reaction to anarchists than running around and shooting up businesses; along with massive “encouragement” from the victorious Allies. The 1928 registration was rationalized because Nazi and the Commie “gangs” were shooting up (“street crime”) each other in street brawls all over Germany. But, actually reflected Hitler’s obsession with power and was synergistic with Chairman Mao’s statement, “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”
On March 18, 1938, the Nazis passed the Firearms Act
On November 11, 1938, the Nazi Regulations Against Jews’ Possession of Weapons, was placed into effect on the eve of Kristallnacht.
Here’s a fair review of the 1928 and 1938 German Socialist inspired Gun-Hating Laws:
