A small percentage of people carry a firearm while running, according to a recent survey conducted by Runner’s World. Of 4,670 respondents, two percent of men and one percent of women said they sometimes carry.
Those may seem like small numbers, but the runners who tote guns feel strongly about their choice to do so. After RW and others published stories about women being attacked on runs, several commenters mentioned arming themselves on their runs.
All 50 states have laws allowing concealed carry of firearms, provided proper permits are obtained, and some runners feel safer taking advantage of them. We talked to four women about what went into their loaded decisions.
