Despite the fact that violent crime and the national murder rate have been trending in an overall downward fashion for almost 3 decades, many Americans tend to believe that violent crime is on the rise. This is likely due to the modern 24 hour news cycle, social media and other technological factors that make information more prevalent than ever before.
With social media feeds and televisions being inundated with constant coverage of violent crime, you might think that more Americans than ever would be supporting gun control.
However, according to a recent poll, that’s not the case. Americans are moving in a direction where they realize that they are responsible for their own personal safety. As the popular saying goes, “when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”
According to a new Gallup poll, a majority of Americans believe that concealed carry of firearms make the country safer.
According to the poll, which asked the question, “If more Americans carried concealed weapons, would the United States be safer or less safe?”
56% of respondents said the country would be safer. This is compared to only 41% of respondents who said the country would be less safe.
It’s true, Americans are, more than ever, embracing the idea that more guns equal less crime.
