This wasn’t just approved by the parents; it was created by the father. An AI avatar of his murdered son is speaking from beyond the grave to push a political message. People aren’t more outraged by AI than by mass shootings. They’re outraged that grief is being turned into digital theater. This is a new low and a dangerous one. Did anyone think Jim Acosta wouldn’t jump on this? This is what he’s always done. This was ‘news’ created by the grieving father of a murdered child. But let’s not pretend this isn’t crossing a line. Using AI to speak for the dead is not journalism. It’s emotional theater and it’s dangerous.
Liberal journalist Jim Acosta “interviewed” the artificially animated avatar of deceased teenager Joaquin Oliver to promote a gun control message on Monday.
Working with the gun control group Change the Ref, founded by Oliver’s parents, Acosta had a conversation on his Substack with an avatar created by the father of the son, who was killed in the Parkland high school shooting in 2018. He would have turned 25 on Monday.
“I would like to know what your solution would be for gun violence,” Acosta asked.
